I suppose our local “woke” Council majority wants a congratulations, the Governor has elevated it from a group of three public servants to deities. If there are any adults left in that room, they’ll read this.
Some of us still believe in public service. Not to one faction, group or ideology. To ALL. It’s hard. It takes commitment, knowledge, intelligence, inner stamina, awareness, patience, emotional and mental agility. It makes everyone better.
My late father’s mentors are being erased for their skin color. Under their direction, my Dad went on to build an entire surgical practice around helping marginalized, underserved people. His waiting room was full of black and brown people who didn’t have insurance. He accepted payment in homemade items. His wake went on for hours. It wasn’t full of fancy doctors with leased vehicles, it was a line of elderly and disabled custodians, nurses, and hospital employees, making sure they could tell someone who he was. He got someone a better job, he knew someone’s kids’ names when no other doctor even looked her in the eye. No one knew that much about what he actually did until that wake, not even me. He just answered a calling. He didn’t talk about people. He talked about work, and principles. Cue the eye roll and CRT label from my local Council majority. I’m pretty sure the label is “white savior” or something. But I’ll pass. Some of us still respect the personal testimony of the individual people who the eye rollers claim to serve.
This is what this garbage ideology does. It erases all the good with the bad. Throws the baby out with the bathwater. And SB1100 is greasing the wheels.
A relative who has defended even this woke majority Council when I have griped about it, is DONE, overnight. That erasing of physician mentors was all it took for her to see it. We as a unified people are shoved from disgust to danger when this garbage ideology infects those who took the Hippocratic Oath. Many were no longer safe when medicine became a bow to corporate greed and tracked prescriptions. But now? No one is safe when the church of garbage ideology interferes with even the most basic, necessary care.
Being a paramedic, physician or nurse doesn’t just take intense study and training. It takes advanced human will among those who know they are a member of a human family. They serve the principles of preserving HUMAN LIFE, not the personalities of the ward.
Snopes has apparently “fact checked” this depiction of black nurses and first responders working on a member of a wretched racist group, in full dress. The first time I saw this photo was in the 90s in person at a gallery, before a lot was riding on convincing people that this didn’t and won’t happen. I’ll just say it could, and I invite you to allow it to move you and help you to think. Also please research the funding behind Snopes, and consider the possibility that virtual reality doesn’t take heavy and cumbersome eyewear.
This kind of instant wake up call about erasing good doctors, that I saw in a relative and am begging of you, will continue, one by one. But probably not in Culver City, where even the common sense candidates won’t go near the Covid narrative, despite it being the hub of the wheel currently destroying our town. As I write, the CCUSD kids are still suffocating in masks at school right now, even while CNN’s darling Leana Wen is done with them.
I still live by principles instilled in me by my upbringing. “There is no substitute for hard work. Pressure is a privilege. If you don’t like the heat, get out of the kitchen.”
Serving on a City Council? I could never do it.
But here in CA, it’s getting easier if you tote the correct ideology, isn’t it. The grounding, unifying Constitutional principles that elevate us all have been trashed by hot air like SB1100. It has become a dangerous kingdom of CRT signaling, moody kindergartners.
agree with you 100%. my father was also the kind of doctor your father was. he would be appalled to see what's happening on the ground with the muzzling of physicians - and well, with everyone truth be told. first they came for the doctors...
